Selection Criteria

The David Scholar Program seeks to identify students that have the will to succeed but may struggle with the financial requirements necessary to pursue a post-secondary education. Typically, David Scholars have overcome some type of adversity to get to where they are and have learned and grown from these experiences. They also have shown a high level of academic achievement while at the same time, remaining active in extra curricular and/or community endeavors. David Scholars are not necessarily in the top 10% of their graduating class but are high-effort people who know the key to success is hard work and perseverance. In sum, David Scholars exhibit the following characteristics:

1.

Demonstrate a significant financial need in order to pursue their education

2.

Are Stark County, Ohio high school seniors, attending a Stark County High school

3.

Demonstrate above average academic performance

4.

Participate in extracurricular activities (sports, school organizations, community involvement, work)

5.

Have overcome some obstacles in their lives

6.

Exhibit good character (i.e., are good citizens in the community)
